DEBORAH WATERS TURNER, M.Ed
Center Director/ Student and Community Advisor
Deborah Waters Turner is a product of the former Memphis City Schools, now Shelby County Schools, where she received her high school diploma from Oakhaven High School. Deborah received her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from LeMoyne-Owen College also in Memphis, Tennessee and her Master’s in Education from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She is certified as a K-12 school Administrator and is certified to teach both Vocational classes and traditional classes in Business Administration, Management, Marketing and Applications for grades 6 through 12 in Michigan and in Tennessee. Deborah is currently the Student and Community Relations Advisor and the Director of the South City Community Resource Center located in the historical Booker T. Washington School in Memphis, TN where she manages a $1.3 million-dollar budget to provide services, workshops and resources in the blighted, 38126, community. Deborah is responsible for connecting the agencies and services to the people so they will be able to make informed decisions for life. Deborah is passionate about serving the at-risk population. |
YVONNE JOINER
Student & Community Resource Associate
After retiring as Director of the Event Services Department at the Memphis Cook Convention Center, Yvonne decided to pursue a new career. Holding a Bachelor of Science Degree in Organizational Leadership from Tennessee State University, joining the Shelby County School system was the best choice. Yvonne currently works with the South City Community as a Student and Community Resource Associate. She enjoys doing what she does best, which is doing whatever it takes to ensure families from the Foote Homes projects attending LaRose Elementary School. Services Yvonne has spearheaded at LaRose Elementary include providing housing assistance, collecting and distributing donated uniforms, and assisting with resume building to obtain a promising career. |
KYNDALL LEWIS
Student & Community Resource Associate
A native Memphian and graduate of Whitehaven High School, Kyndall's passion for Memphis runs deep! After graduating from Tennessee State University in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in Fashion Merchandising, Kyndall worked as a visual merchandiser for Forever 21 and Lacoste. While building her fashion resume she decided to take her talents to the classroom. From 2015-2018, Kyndall taught Family and Consumer Science at Melrose High School in the historical Orange Mound neighborhood of Memphis, Tennessee. It was there that Kyndall quickly discovered her passion for children and working to make a positive impression on the community. As South City Community Resource Center’s Student and Community Associate, Kyndall has led workshops with students of Booker T. Washington Middle & High School, made presentations regarding the developments and goals of South City, and continues to build a rapport with former Foote Homes families and South City community partners. |
STEPHANIE MOODY
Educational Specialist, Urban Strategies, Inc.
Stephanie serves as the Education Specialist for Urban Strategies Inc. Stephanie implements strategies to work with the youth and adults providing “two-generation” support to parents and their children. The main focus for the education component for USI includes Kindergarten Readiness, Children Proficient in Reading and Math, College and Career Ready. Prior to serving as the Education Specialist for Urban Strategies Inc., Stephanie taught for legacy Memphis City Schools Voluntary PreK Program. Her experience in early childhood led her to continue to teach after Memphis City Schools merged with Shelby County Schools. Under Shelby County Schools, Stephanie taught under Shelby County Head Start and Porter Leath. Using critical thinking and data analysis in the PreK program, Stephanie wanted to gain experience in elementary which led her to teach for KIPP Memphis Collegiate Elementary School. Stephanie is a proud graduate of Whitehaven High School. Stephanie holds a BS in Communications from University of Tennessee Martin, MA in Education from Bethel University, and Early Childhood PreK-3 Certification from LeMoyne Owen College. Stephanie is the mother of one daughter, Riley.

IRWIN TODD
Student & Community Resource Associate
Irwin Todd is a Family and Community Resource Associate at South City Community Resource Center. In this role, Irwin serves as an advocate for students and families and as a liaison between families and appropriate agencies which can provide services to those in need of additional assistance. Irwin works to secure available resources within the community that will meet the needs of students and families. A big believer in education, learning, and mentoring, Irwin supports the attainment of knowledge and skills to support your passion. Irwin is no stranger to community service and social action, having spent 20 years as a mentor and a people leader where he has helped numerous adults and children to achieve academic, personal, and professional success. Irwin holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Jackson State University. Irwin specializes in marketing and social media; presentation coaching; multicultural awareness; leadership training and has successfully served as a board member of several nonprofit boards and established multiple youth mentoring programs.
